Five Disciplines Under One Strategy

One adviser, five disciplines, and a coordinated Retirement Blueprint. How the firm is structured and why.

Most retirement plans are not plans. They are collections of accounts. A 401(k) here, an IRA there, a Social Security decision left for later, an old life insurance policy, and a trust signed years ago that may or may not be funded. Lindahl Lucas, founder of Avinci Wealth Management, built his firm around that problem.

Where the approach came from

Lucas has been continuously licensed in insurance since 1987 and in securities since 2005. He is an Investment Adviser Representative, firm CRD #327780, and holds a Series 65 licence.

Before founding Avinci, he spent six years at Financial and Tax Architects, where his conviction about coordinated planning took shape. He saw households arrive with substantial balances and fragmented strategies: portfolios that looked sound in isolation, with pieces that did not fit together.

That became the foundation of Avinci Wealth Management, with a mission simple to state and difficult to execute. Bring each part of a client's financial life under one coordinated strategy, led by an experienced adviser.

A decathlete's approach

Lucas was a collegiate All-American decathlete and a Hall of Fame record holder, and later coached two USA Track and Field teams. That background still shapes his work.

The decathlon is ten events, and what wins is not mastery of one discipline but performance across all ten. Retirement planning, Lucas argues, is built the same way. The household that retires successfully is rarely the one with the best portfolio in isolation. It is the one whose pieces fit together.

At Avinci those pieces number five: investment management, tax planning, retirement income, insurance and estate coordination. Five disciplines, one coordinated plan. The phrase is the firm's operating philosophy rather than a tagline.

The Retirement Blueprint

The Retirement Blueprint is the named methodology Avinci uses. It is not a product and not a software tool. It is a written document and a meeting cadence.

The process moves through four steps. Avinci gathers the complete financial picture. The team builds the Blueprint, mapping income and tax exposure year by year. Clients receive a clear snapshot of their position. The strategy is then refined over time.

Tax planning supports the income plan. The income plan supports the investment allocation. The allocation supports the estate plan. Nothing stands alone.

What the Blueprint covers

Clients see their accounts coordinated under one strategy rather than managed separately. They receive a multi-year Roth conversion schedule with amounts, years and the tax considerations behind each conversion.

Account titling and beneficiary information is gathered and tracked for review with the client's attorney, who makes the legal determinations. Who handles trust funding in California covers how those roles divide. A Social Security claiming analysis is modelled against life expectancy, spousal benefits and tax brackets. An insurance review considers what to keep, what to reconsider and what may be missing.

Perhaps most usefully, a market decline meets a planned response rather than an improvised one. The plan anticipated that markets fall.

Founder access and disclosure

Lucas also owns Lucas Insurance Services, an independent insurance agency he founded in 1987. That affiliate places insurance and annuities for Avinci clients when those products fit the plan. The agency may receive commissions from issuing insurance companies, which creates a conflict of interest and is disclosed in writing before anything is placed and in Avinci's Form ADV.

Clients work directly with Lucas. Founder involvement and a documented, repeatable process describe how the firm operates.

The New Rules of Wealth

Lucas is writing a book titled The New Rules of Wealth, on why the retirement and investment field is changing.

"Under the old approach the client has to coordinate everything themselves, between the investment adviser, the insurance agent, the trust attorney and the CPA, and hope they did not miss anything," Lucas says. "We work to provide a coordinated system so the pieces are considered together."

The firm does not do one thing. It works across several areas intended to give clients clarity about their assets, their retirement and their legacy. The companion article sets out that argument in full.
